A little help.
Catch the fall. Lift the ball. Chase another ring.
Here’s how to get the most out of Abstract Hackysack.
The essentials
- Tap to lift. Flick to steer. Catch the ball as it falls. Let it complete an arc before the next scoring return; quick corrections still move it.
- Catch rings. Consecutive rings build flow up to ×4. A missed ring or a rescue resets the chain. Every fifth consecutive ring earns a save, up to two.
- Release a Comet. Four rings charge the gold button. Tap it when you’re ready for a smaller bonus ball. It lasts up to 12 seconds, gives extra points, and dropping it costs no save.
- Expect more weight. Gravity increases with time and score. The arc stays roughly the same height, but the next catch comes sooner.
Studies & palettes
Studies are nine optional skill goals. Every goal tracks at once, and each must be achieved within a single run. Your best attempt is saved between sessions; separate attempts are not added together.
Complete 3, 6, and 9 Studies to unlock Risograph, Ultraviolet, and Porcelain palettes. Tap the Study card on the title or results screen to see every goal. Tap the palette label to switch between unlocked colors. Palettes change appearance, not difficulty. Studies do not expire.
Common questions
How do I pause or change settings?
Tap the pause icon at the top right. Sound, haptics, and motion settings are saved for next time. Reduced motion removes screen shake and flashes and reduces decorative motion; the ball and moving targets still move. Returning to a paused run includes a short countdown.
Why did a tap move the ball without awarding points?
Scoring rewards a rising-and-falling arc. Tapping again while the ball rises, or after only a tiny bounce, is a correction. Let it rise and catch it on the way down for the next scored return.
Why did my flow reset?
Letting a ring expire or using a save resets the chain. Dropping the gold Comet does not. The main ball still needs your attention while a Comet is active.
Can I play offline?
Yes. Gameplay, scores, Studies, and palettes work offline. Opening these web pages or sending support email requires an internet connection.
Where is my progress saved?
Progress is stored on this device. The game does not provide cloud sync or a developer-hosted restore service. Deleting the app removes its local data; an Apple device backup may restore it. Avoid reinstalling as a first troubleshooting step.
I can’t hear the game or feel haptics.
Check Sound and Haptics in the pause menu, your iPhone’s volume and silent settings, and whether audio is routed to headphones or another device. Haptic behavior also depends on device support and system settings.
The game froze or something looks wrong.
Close and reopen the game, then check for an available app update. If the problem continues, email the steps that led to it, your iPhone model, iOS version, and the app version shown under About & Privacy. A screenshot or short recording can help. Do not include private notifications or other sensitive information.
How do I request a refund?
Apple handles App Store payments and refund requests. Visit Apple’s Report a Problem service for the options available for your purchase.
