Ninetiles — Word Blitz

Email jdselig@gmail.com and you will get a reply from the person who made the game.

It helps to say which iPhone you have and what you were doing when something went wrong. If it happened in an online match, say roughly when, so it can be matched up.

Questions that come up

How do I play someone who is not nearby?

Tap Online on the main menu. Matches run turn by turn through Game Center — you play, they get a notification, and they take their turn whenever they like. You can have several going at once.

Pick the board size and length before you start the match. A short match on a small board runs about three turns each, which is an evening; a full board is closer to nine turns each.

What is a match code?

Mirror matches need no account and no connection. The game packs the whole match into a twelve-character code — text it to anyone, they type it in, and you are both playing the same tiles in the same order on your own boards. Compare scores when you are done.

It only works for Mirror modes, because those are the ones where nothing has to travel between you. A shared board needs real turns, which is what Online is for.

Why nine tiles?

Because seven produces racks you cannot do anything with. Nine means there is nearly always a play, so turns are about choosing rather than waiting. The tile values and the board are built around that, so it is a different game rather than a bigger hand.

What does "par" mean in a puzzle?

The best play an ordinary vocabulary can reach — not the highest-scoring play that exists. Matching par means you found the good answer. Beating it means you found something most people would not.

The rack is too small, or too wide

Tap the grid button under the rack during a game to switch between three by three, two rows, and one long row. It changes immediately and it remembers.

The computer opponent seems too hard, or too easy

The difficulty setting changes how many words the opponent knows, not how well it plays. There are five levels. It never cheats and it does not get better when it is losing.

How do I delete my data?

Delete the app. Everything it saves — settings, scores, games in progress — is stored on your device only, and goes with it. See the privacy policy.
